Hey Cynthia,

Some sources to check out…

An opinion and interview on the Brookings Institute website that summarizes pros and cons of the policy.  On Democracy Now interesting interview with Deborah Meier on Obama’s policy, presented as a transcript and also video interview.  Lastly an short and interesting article in the Atlantic.  See the links below:

Re: Thoughts on Obama's Education policy...

Interesting NPR story this morning.  Bush's former Secretary of Education was interviewed and she's changed her position on No Child Left Behind and this morning she stated that Race to the Top is taking us on the wrong path.  She's now stating that competition and high stakes testing are detrimental to education.....

Re: Thoughts on Obama's Education policy...

Wow.  Thanks LK. VERY interesting story.  She didn't just make a slight adjustment in her thinking... she did a complete 180!
I'm posting some excerpts from her book in the Book Review section of the site.  Thanks again for the recommendation!

Re: Thoughts on Obama's Education policy...

It is good to see that someone in government, especially in education, can see that a program is not working as intended and is willing to do something about it.

Far too often do politicians only see what is on the tip of their nose. This short-sighted way of policy is affecting the classrooms negatively, as usual, and it is not for years until they do something about it.

Thanks for the great information
